Day 1: Nyakalengija (1,600 m) to John Matte Hut (3,420 m)

Duration of hike: 7 to 8 hours

Elevation gain: +1,820m

This area features distinctive Rwenzori flora, such as enormous lobelias, groundsels, and everlasting flowers. As altitude increases, sights of Mount Stanley, Mount Speke, and the secluded Margherita Peak and Alexandra Peaks become visible.

The last hike rises sharply over rugged terrain to Elena Hut, situated just beneath the Stanley Glacier. An early dinner and adequate rest are important for the summit ascent preparation.

Day 3: Elena Hut (4,563 m) to Margherita Peak (5,109 m) to Bujuku Hut (3,960 m)

Duration of hike: 10 to 12 hours

Commencement of summit attempt: around 2:00 AM

The day of the summit begins extremely early. Armed with headlamps, crampons, harnesses, and ropes, you embark on a challenging ascent of the Stanley Glacier.

Upon traversing the glacier, you go to rough scrambling prior to accessing the Margherita Glacier, the ultimate route to the summit. Fixed ropes facilitate navigation in exposed areas.
