5 days Mount Kenya climbing Sirimon Chogoria route, traverses from Chogoria route to point Lenana peak at 4985m, and ending at Sirimon route. This Chogoria route for climbing up Mount Kenya to Point Lenana Peak is possibly the most spectacular ascending trail to the summit region of Mount Kenya. This is the best way to get up the mountain, and the walk along the side of it is really beautiful. The descent via the Sirimon route traverses picturesque forest paths and concludes the mountain crossing.

The accommodation for this 5 days Mount Kenya Climbing to Point Lenana via Chogoria-sirimon route consists of one night in mountain cabins and three nights of camping. However, if you like to camp, you may do so overnight on the mountain.

Detailed 5 days Mount Kenya Climbing via Mount
Day 1: Nairobi- Mt Kenya Bandas (2,900m) 3hrs, 10km walk, 650m ascent.
Depart from Nairobi at 0800 hours, traversing agricultural farmlands to Chogoria town for lunch. Post-lunch, we proceed to the periphery of the bamboo forest, commencing our trek through the dense vegetation for a distance of 10 km to the Mt.Kenya Bandas. Dinner and overnight at the Meru Mount Kenya Bandas.
Day 2: Mt. Kenya Bandas to Lake Ellis Campsite (3,450m),
Duration: 4 hours
Distance: 9 miles, 550m elevation gain.
Following breakfast and the organization of porter loads, Begin your ascent of the mountain at a leisurely pace.
A moderately prolonged hike around Lake Ellis offers picturesque vistas of Mugi, Ithanguni, and the Giants Billiards Table. Alternatively, following the river near the road head upstream for almost 3 km reveals exceptionally stunning foreground scenery and plants. We will have lunch beside the stream before ascending the left-hand hillside to our tent at around 3,450 meters.
Day 3: Lake Ellis to Minto’s Camp. (4,200m)
Duration: 4 hours,
Distance: 12km,
Ascent: 750m.
Commence at a similar early hour and traverse a ridge up the mountain for around three hours, ultimately connecting with the tourist trail on the standard Chogoria route at an elevation of around 4,100 meters. Stunning vistas of the Gorges Valley, with a view extending into Ithanguni and the Northern Moorlands. Lunch is provided at a small stream crossing, followed by an additional hour of travel to the Mintos Hut location at 4200m for our overnight accommodation. The afternoon is devoted to leisure at camp, although a 10-minute stroll to the “Temple” is certainly worthwhile. This is a 150-meter steep cliff, named after the position tourists often take on while gazing over the edge, like a prayerful stance. A prompt retirement is advised as you will be endeavoring to reach the summit the next day.
Day 4: Minto’s – Point Lenana (4,985m) – Old Moses Camp.
Duration: 8-9 hours;
Ascent: 785m;
Descent: 1,685m;
Distance: 19km.
The predawn ascent to the top commences at 0300 hours, requiring approximately three hours of hiking to reach Point Lenana (4,985m), the designated hiker’s summit, where one arrives in time to witness the African sunrise. Proceed to Shipton camp for breakfast.
Commence a 4-5-hour descent down Mackinder’s Valley to Old Moses Camp (3,300m) following breakfast. The descent is gradual, providing sufficient time to fully experience the captivating landscape, including the moorlands, prior to arriving at the camp.
Evening meal and overnight stay in Old Moses camp
Day 5: Old Moses Camp – Nairobi – 3 hours.
Following breakfast in the early morning, transfer back to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon.
