The Burguret route to the top of Point Lenana of Mt. Kenya was established during the colonial period, thereafter neglected for several years before being reinstated in the early 1990s.

Detailed 6 Days Mount Kenya climbing Burguret Sirimon Route
Day 1: Nairobi – Gathiuru Forest Station (2000m) to Giant Bamboo Camp (2680m)
Timeframe: 4-5 hours
Distance: 15 km, 680 m rise
Day 2: Giant Bamboo – Highland Castle Camp (3,700 m).
Duration: 5 to 6 hours
Distance: 10 kilometers, 1020 meters elevation gain
Ascend through the Bamboo zone, proceeding to the Podocarpus and Pencil Cedar forest. As we ascend further, we traverse the Hypericum and Hygenia zone, commonly referred to as the rosewood zone, before arriving at the high-altitude moorland, which offers breathtaking vistas of a lava cliff, where we will dine and spend the night at Highland Castle campsite.
Day 3: Highland Castle – Teleki Valley Campsite at 4300 meters
Post-breakfast, ascend the moorland towards the principal peaks rising to the East, traversing peculiar gigantic groundsel and lobelia flora to Two Turn Lake, then descend to Teleki Valley for an overnight stay at 4,300m. This is an extraordinary environment beneath the majestic peaks and glaciers, inhabited by peculiar rock hyrax and exquisite sunbirds.

Day 4: Teleki Valley Camp to Shipton Camp (4200m)
Duration: 4 hours, Distance: 7 kilometers, Ascent: 300 meters
From Teleki camp, the route ascends along switchbacks that meander along a stunning sequence of rock ledges to Two Turn Lake, Nanyuki, and Emarland Tarns before rising to the summit of a ridge referred to as Arthur’s Seat. We will descend into the Hausberg valley and repose at the Oblong and Hausberg tarns. The trail ascends northeast by switchbacks through fine snow, ultimately reaching Hausberg Col at an elevation of 4590 meters. Proceed eastward beyond Kami Camp, situated beneath the northern face of Batian, to Shipton Camp at 4,200 meters for lunch, dinner, and overnight accommodation. This is situated beneath the majestic peaks and glaciers, home to the peculiar rock hyrax and exquisite sunbirds.
Day 5: Shipton Camp to Lenana Peak to Old Moses Camp
This will be the most extended day of the journey. Start with an early morning tea and, at approximately 3:00 AM, initiate the ascent up loose scree, which is occasionally snow-covered during certain seasons of the year, to attain the peak of Lenana at 4,985 meters.

After a three-hour ascent to the third peak of Mt. Kenya to witness the dawn and enjoy a magnificent view from the summit extending to Mt. Kilimanjaro in the south, descend back to Shipton Camp in two hours for breakfast. After breakfast, descend to Old Moses to arrive in the late afternoon for supper and overnight accommodations.
Day 6: Old Moses Camp to Nairobi
Following breakfast, depart the camp at 8:00 AM and descend for 2 hours to Sirimon Gate, where you will board a transfer vehicle to Nanyuki to drop off the porters. Subsequently, you will return to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon, thereby concluding your 6-day Mount Kenya Burguret-Sirimon hiking expedition.
