16 Days - 8 Peaks Rwenzori Trekking Safari
16 days Rwenzori trekking to 8 peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains leads to Mount Stanley, Mount Gessi, Mount Emin, Mount Speke, Mount Baker and Mount Luigi De Savoia

As part of my research for the Summits of Africa project, I have been traveling across Africa in search of the ten highest peaks. These include Mount Kenya and Batian Peak in Kenya, Kilimanjaro and Uhuru Peak in Tanzania, and many more. The other eight are located in Uganda’s Rwenzori Mountains. I dedicated 16 days to summiting all peaks, which involved crossing a crevasse at dawn to access Margherita Peak, accompanied by armed rangers due to the region’s hazardous conditions, while witnessing unique vistas and vegetation, so culminating my 9-month Peaks of Africa Journey.
The Rwenzori Mountains, known as the “Mountains of the Moon,” are a notable mountain range located on the boundary of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They are renowned for their glacier-capped peaks, diverse ecosystems, and stunning vistas.
The region spans more than 7800 km², hence it is not surprising that it contains six major mountain ranges, each with unique peaks. The ones I ascended were these:
Mount Emin – Umberto Peak, 4,798 meters (15,741 feet)
Mount Gessi – Lolanda Peak, 4,715 meters (15,469 feet)
Mount Speke – Vittorio Emanuele, 4,890 meters (16,043 feet)
Mount Stanley – Margherita Peak 5,109 m (16,762 ft) / Albert Peak 5,087 m (16,690 ft)
Mount Luigi di Savoia – Sella Peak 4,627 m (15,180 ft) / Weisman Peak 4,620 m (15,157 ft)
Mount Baker – Edward Peak, 4,844 meters (15,892 feet)
